Godspell
Each of us goes through periods of pain and suffering. What if one man wanted to help us see how beautiful life could be and what if that one man was punished for trying to do just that? Godspell is the story of that one man. Godspell has received many awards, including Broadway.com’s favourite musical revival in 2012. The 1972 Toronto production launched the careers of many actors, including Victor Garber, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Gilda Radner, Dave Thomas, Martin Short, and the show’s musical director, Paul Shaffer.
In 1977, Godspell won the Tony nomination for Best Original Score. The song “Day by Day” reached number seven on the Canadian Billboard charts in Canada. The 2024 film Wicked, written by Godspell composer, Stephen Schwartz has grossed over $697 million worldwide. It is the highest-grossing musical film adaptation ever. Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God, and Atheists don’t believe in God at all, but most people know someone who has tried to change the world for the better and was persecuted for it. Godspell is the story of one of those people.
The 8th Avenue Players is a new musical theatre group dedicated to the performance of high-quality musical theatre using professional actors and musicians.
