Summerside Baywalk Boardwalk & Cycling Trail

The Baywalk Boardwalk and Cycling Trail is a scenic 6.5 km waterfront trail in Summerside. It follows the shoreline and connects to the provincial Confederation Trail at several access points.

First, stroll past the iconic City by the Sea swings and the lively marina. Then continue toward Spinnakers’ Landing, where cafés, patios, and local shops line the boardwalk. Along the way, stop at viewing platforms and explore outdoor public art. You can also pause for a picnic while enjoying sweeping coastal views.

Since June 2025, on display along the Baywalk is a striking new public art installation, “Holy Mackerel,” created by Island artist Patrick Brunet. This piece features three 12-foot wooden fish that frame views of the sea and cast dramatic shadows throughout the day. Not only is it playful and eye-catching, but it also reflects PEI’s fishing heritage and the future of our oceans.

As the trail continues, it transitions into a peaceful Acadian forest. Here, you’ll pass through the Natural Duck Pond Conservation Area. Watch for Chickadees, Blue jays, Red squirrels, Black ducks, and Great blue herons. You may even spot a Red fox — a living reminder of PEI’s historic million-dollar fox farming industry. To learn more about this fascinating chapter of Island history, visit the PEI Fox Museum.

In addition, the Mackenzie Drive section includes convenient EV charging ports. This makes it easy to explore the trail while travelling sustainably.
