Relax Seaside…

There’s nothing like breathing in a deep breath of seaside fresh air – do it with us, inhale… exhale ahhh, now that’s the stuff. Whatsmore, there’s nothing like spending some relaxing time in #TheCityByTheSea in the summertime! From the boardwalk to the forest and everywhere in between there’s no limit to what you can do for your health and wellness in Summerside.

Stretch it Out

Grab your mat, a bottle of water and set yourself up for a relaxing stretch and flow by the water. With Green’s Shore nearby there’s plenty of room to enjoy a yoga practice outdoors. And our favourite beach bar, The Knot, offers Sip and Stretch events with @thelittleislandyogi Chloe Millar, a trained yoga instructor. While you’re there, Chloe will take you through a relaxing flow and you can take time to sip on a cool drink, sink your toes in the sand, and enjoy the views.

If you’re interested in a solo practice, Chloe has a few stretches for you to try seaside.

Child’s Pose: Stretches out your hips, thighs, ankles, and relaxes your body and mind. Sit on your knees and then fold over, keeping your bum resting on your heels. Bring your forehead to the ground. Extend your arms above your head with hands on the floor for an extended stretch.

Tree Pose: Improves balance, stability and core strength. Standing, bring the sole of one foot to your calf or upper thigh. Raise your arms above your head, bring palms together.

High Lunge: Strengthens ankles, calves, hamstrings, and hip flexor muscles. Standing, step on foot back and bend your front knee. Stack your bent knee above your ankle so they line up.

Warrior Pose: Stretches chest, shoulders, neck, abdomen, and inner thighs. Staying in the lunge position, turn your back foot so your toes face out (no longer facing forward). Bring your arms up to shoulder height, with the arm on the same side of your bent knee reaching forward and your other arm extended backward. You can also raise your arms above your head for a variation in the pose.

Butterfly Pose: Stretches your inner thighs, back, and hip flexors. Sitting down, bring the soles of your feet together. Bend forward at your hips, until you feel a stretch. Alternatively, laying your back, bring the soles of your feet together and relax into a light stretch.

Relaxed & Pampered

We don’t know about you, but one of our favourite things to do in the summertime is to simply lounge by the water. With picnic tables stationed along the boardwalk and ample open space there’s plenty of room to sit back with a snack, a cold drink from your beloved resto, or a good book!

But if you’re in need of some pampering, don’t miss heading to the barber shop or spa for a reprieve from the business of summer! Also stationed along the boardwalk is the Humble Barber, the perfect spot for a cut, beard trim, or drink to unwind (did we mention it’s right next to The Knot, too?)! If your dogs are barking (we’re talking about your feet) from all that walking and exploring you’re doing this summer, treat yourself to a pedicure at Mint Spa!

Embracing the Outdoors

We’ve boasted about our boardwalk already, but really in the summertime it’s a fan favourite in our seaside city! From riding your bike to walking your dog it offers the perfect setting for you to enjoy time by the water without necessarily being on or in the water (we know the ocean isn’t for everyone). We also love spending some time at Rotary Friendship Park (another spot we love in the city, and we aren’t afraid to mention it). Both with kilometres of pathway to explore, enjoying nature can be easy as long as you’ve got your essentials!
