October Literary Discussion: The Evolution of Vampires in Literature

How did the vampire transform from a figure of ancient folklore into one of literature’s most enduring characters? October’s literary discussion will trace the fascinating development of vampires in literature and the stories that helped shape the genre.

The conversation will explore the earliest vampire myths and folklore and consider how these traditions influenced the first literary vampire stories. From those beginnings, participants will follow the genre through its evolution and discuss how portrayals of vampires—and the stories told about them—have changed over time.
