Artist Residency & Talk: Jane Whitten

Join us at Eptek Art & Culture Centre for a special Artist Talk and Viewing with textile artist Jane Whitten, marking the conclusion of her two-week artist residency.

During her time at Eptek, Jane has transformed the space with bright colour, coastal textures, and the scent of the sea, working experimentally with processed seaweed—dying, weaving, netting, and knitting it into sculptural forms. Known for her innovative approach to basketmaking and textiles, Jane has spent years exploring seaweed as a material, blending traditional craft with contemporary experimentation.

This residency builds on research Jane conducted in Berlevåg, Northern Norway, where she collaborated with Norwegian artist Ingrid Larssen to explore textile techniques using seaweed. At Eptek, Jane continued this exploration using Canadian kelp, expanding on techniques first developed abroad.

Visitors are invited to an exclusive viewing of the work created during her Eptek residency, alongside select pieces from her time in Norway. Following the viewing, Jane will present an artist talk, sharing insights into her creative process, materials, and experimental methods.
