Concerts in the Garden

Concerts in the Garden of Wyatt Heritage Properties, featuring local musicians performing a range of music, are returning for the summer of 2021. It is great to be back. Although the COVID-19 pandemic still casts a shadow over gatherings, the widening vaccine program is making it possible to move ahead and bring back on Wednesday evenings the sound of music on the outdoor stage of Wyatt Heritage Properties, 205 Prince Street (corner of Granville Street and Prince Street).

There will be changes in order to keep everyone safe. We will start the season with two cohorts of fifty on the lawn. As Public Health increases cohort sizes, our numbers will go up. Circles will be placed on the lawn to mark distancing. We provide limited seating and ask people to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Cohorts cannot intermix.  There will be an entrance on to the lawn from Prince Street and one from Spring/Winter Streets by the Wyatt House Museum and garage. An outdoor washroom facility will be provided for each cohort. Admission to the concerts will be by donation. Names will be taken for contact tracing. Please note the Summerside Arts Festival is happening on the evening of Wednesday, June 21st.  The format will be different in that there will be a walkthrough on the lawn to view artist/artisan demonstrations and to listen to the music. Seating will be limited. The Drive Thru Art Show will be happening on Prince Street.

An intermission will not be permitted, but staff can still serve Wyatt’s homemade ice cream by bringing it to people in their seats.

Concerts start at 6:30 pm and because of no intermission will end at 8:15. Though there are restrictions, the staff of Culture Summerside will do their best to provide concert goers with a relaxing summer evening of Island entertainment on the beautiful grounds of the historic Wyatt Heritage Properties.

SUMMER LINE UP

July 7:  Rodney Savident
Rodney Savident loves to kick off the summer concert series. Savident is a well-known name on the Summerside music scene. He plays a variety of music from 50s and 60s rock’n’roll, country and bluegrass gospel. He has recorded a number of CDs. He is looking forward to welcoming and entertaining both old and new audience members in the garden.

July 14: The Buchanan Family
Lloyd Buchanan and his sister, Wanda (Dunbar), have entertained audiences from the stages of numerous venues. The Buchanans perform contemporary, country, and 1960s music, with a smidge of gospel in the mix.

July 21: Roy MacCaull, Kim Tuplin, Bobby MacLean, Steve Perry
It will be the third and final day of the Summerside Arts Festival at Wyatt Heritage Properties. The festival celebrates the vibrant arts community of Summerside and area. On Prince Street, which runs through Wyatt Heritage Properties, there will be a Drive Thru Art exhibit featuring the works of over twenty local artists. On the lawn, artists and artisans will be demonstrating their skills, and from 6 pm to 8 pm, the above four wonderfully talented musicians will be on stage. Seating will depend on Public Health rules at that time.

July 28: Route 11 Festival
Culture Summerside is excited to have the lawn of Wyatt Heritage Properties be the first performance venue for the Route 11 Festival that will begin on Wednesday, July 28th and go throughout the weekend at various sites along Route 11. The names of performers for the Concerts in the Garden evening will be available soon.

August 4: Roy MacCaull, Kim Tuplin, Bobby MacLean, Steve Perry
Roy MacCaull is a veteran of the Island music scene. Culture Summerside’s phones often ring with the person on the other end wanting to know if there is a date coming soon that he will be onstage. Roy has surrounded himself with high calibre Island talent in musicians, Kim Tuplin, Bobby MacLean and Steve Perry.

August 11: Gentle Breeze, Harold and Marnie Noye, Dylan Ferguson, Brent Biggar
The four member Gentle Breeze band has a lot of playing time under their belts.  Harold and Marnie Noye have been entertaining on and off PEI for over thirty years as a duo and with several different bands. Harold sings a fine lead and plays mandolin and guitar. Marnie plays stand up base and adds harmony vocals. Dylan Ferguson and Brent Biggar round out the band with their collective talent.

August 18: Fred Martin
Fred Martin delights audiences with the singing of Maritime and Traditional music.  Toes will be tapping and there will be a festive feeling in the air. It is the last concert of the season as the daylight become shorter.
