Dear Jack, Dear Louise

Dear Jack, Dear Louise by Ken Ludwig

Jack is an army doctor; Louise is an aspiring actor and dancer. Their parents think they should meet. There is just one problem: they are separated by the events of World War II. Loosely based on his parents’ wartime letters, playwright Ken Ludwig creates a funny but deeply touching story of two young people who find humour and love through letters, even though they have not yet met in person. Will the circumstances and dangers of the war prevent them from ever meeting? Although set during World War II, Ludwig has crafted a story that resonates powerfully today.

The play won the 2020 Helen Hayes Award and the Charles MacArthur Award for Best New Play.

Ken Ludwig has had many Broadway successes over his long career. The Olivier and Tony Award-winning playwright’s list of comedy credits includes “Lend Me a Tenor,” “Crazy for You,” “Moon Over Buffalo,” and “Baskerville.”
