Filmworks Summerside: The Choral (2025)

The Choral is a moving story about resilience, community, and the power of music in the face of war.

Set in 1916, as the First World War rages across Europe, the Choral Society in Ramsden, Yorkshire finds itself without most of its male singers, who have been called to serve at the front. Determined to continue, the choir’s committee recruits young local boys to fill the ranks.

They also hire a new chorus master, Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes)—a driven and demanding musician recently returned from Germany. As conscription papers arrive and uncertainty grows, the community turns to music as a way to face the hardship surrounding them.

This screening is part of the Harbour Highlights Series—a curated selection of exceptional films and performances brought to Summerside through special investment and programming. The series is supported by the Government of Canada, the Province of Prince Edward Island, and the City of Summerside.
