Filmworks Summerside at Harbourfront presents: Sentimental Value (2025)

Directed by Joachim Trier, Sentimental Value (2025) is a tender and sharply observed Norwegian comedy-drama about family, memory, and the cost of creative ambition.

The film follows sisters Nora, an actor, and Agnes as they mourn their mother’s passing—only to have their estranged father, Gustav, suddenly re-enter their lives. Once a celebrated filmmaker, Gustav is planning a comeback and offers Nora a pivotal role in his new project. What appears to be an olive branch soon reveals deeper tensions, blurring the line between reconciliation and control.

Balancing dry wit with quiet melancholy, Sentimental Value is a soulful exploration of how the past shapes who we are—and how art can both heal and harm.

This screening is part of our Harbour Highlights series—work we have hand-picked, invested in, and proactively brought to Summerside, and which we know you will love as much as we do. The Harbour Highlights series is made possible in part through the support of the Government of Canada, the Province of Prince Edward Island, and the City of Summerside.
