Our Story

The Style Inc. began in 1974 as a small, two-chair barbershop and quickly grew to seven locations across Prince Edward Island. In the early 1990s, the company made a strategic decision to focus its growth in Summerside, selling its other locations and investing in the local community.

At a time when there was a shortage of hairstylists and no local training options, The Style Inc. saw an opportunity to lead. In 1992, we pioneered the Hair Concepts Training Academy, opening our doors to train new hairstylists and create lasting employment opportunities in the region.

Our original Summerside salon opened at Waterfront Mall in 1974 and served as our flagship location until shifts in retail traffic led to the mall’s closure in 2005. This transition inspired growth, and in 2006, Life Styles Salon and Boutique opened on McEwen Road.

One original salon proudly retains the company’s founding name. The Style Salon, opened in 1975 alongside the construction of County Fair Mall, is now our largest location. Over the years, it has helped develop confident, skilled hairstylists—many of whom have trained with industry leaders in Halifax, Vancouver, and Las Vegas.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

As awareness of environmental responsibility grew, we knew we could do more. In 2015, The Style Salon became one of the first salons in the Maritimes to commit to environmental sustainability through a partnership with Green Circle Salons.

Through this program, we significantly reduce salon waste by diverting materials from local landfills. Hair clippings, chemical waste, used foils, aerosol cans, and #7 plastics are collected and recycled into new, useful products across Canada. Our staff and guests are proud to be part of these daily efforts as we lead the way in sustainable salon practices.

Did you know? Hair placed in landfills can mummify and release methane gas. At The Style Salon, hair clippings are repurposed into nylon booms used for oil spill cleanup. Human hair has powerful absorbent properties, making it highly effective at removing oil from water—an innovative and meaningful way to protect our environment.
