Richard WOOD: Celtic Rhythms in Motion

A Celebration of Island Fiddle & Dance

Experience the energy of PEI fiddle music and step-dancing as internationally acclaimed fiddler Richard WOOD launches a brand-new Island cultural tradition.

The first annual Richard WOOD: Celtic Rhythms in Motion – A Celebration of Island Fiddle & Dance takes place at the New London Community Complex, bringing together six Island step-dance ensembles and soloists for a high-energy celebration of PEI’s Celtic music and dance heritage.

Richard will be joined by bandmates Brent Chaisson on guitar and Kimberley Holmes on keyboard, providing live music for an exciting mix of emerging and seasoned Island dancers.

Step-dancing has played an important role in Richard’s own musical journey. His career began as a young step-dancer performing alongside live fiddlers, and this new production brings fiddle and dance together again—showcasing the energy and connection created when musicians and dancers share the stage.

“This show is about celebrating our culture in its purest form: live fiddle and live dance together,” says Wood. “It’s how I started, and it’s how I want to inspire the next generation to carry it forward.”

The performance is planned as the beginning of an annual fall cultural series, celebrating and sharing Prince Edward Island’s rich Celtic music and step-dance traditions.
